Defensive Driving Course

Defensive Driving Course, is also known as the Accident Prevention Course, or the Point and Insurance Reduction (PIRP) Course.  It is a comprehensive driver safety course, which provides knowledge and techniques for safe and lawful driving.  

Completion of the course will:

• refresh your driving knowledge, 
• help to prevent you from losing your license in the event you accrued 11 or more points on your driving record, 
• and/or reduce the rate of your auto insurance premiums by 10% each year, for three years. 

The class should be taken every 3 years to maintain the insurance discount, or every 18 months for point reduction.

Classroom:

All of our classes are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. We no longer accept walk-ins. Reservations can be made by clicking on PREPAY NOW. 

The course is presented, as one session, over a 6 hour period.  Breaks are included, and the time of breaks will be determined by the instructor. We hold the in-person classes only on Sundays, from 3-9pm. No formal testing is required to complete the course in-person.  All classes start promptly. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the class and bring your NYS Permit or Driver's License.  

We understand our customers have busy lifestyles with tight schedules. ABC School of Driving is happy to refer you to an online course that is approved by the DMV. The class can be taken at any time of day. Once you register with our sponsor, you have up to 30 days to complete the course, so you can finish at your own pace. During the course, you will be asked to identify yourself with information given at registration. To ensure that you are taking the course, you will also be asked questions regarding the content. There is no final exam to complete.
