In order to be eligible to take a test you must meet the eligibility requirements:
1. Valid New York State Learner Permit:
- Must be a photo permit, that is valid and not expired.
2. Valid 5 Hour Pre-licensing Certificate or a Valid MV-285 Driver Education Certificate:
- Your 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Certificate or MV-285 certificate must be valid on the date that you make your appointment, and not expired.
- The 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Certificate is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. If your certificate expires, you must complete the course again. Click HERE to see our class schedule. If you lost your certificate, you need to purchase a duplicate, please contact our office to arrange this.
- A form MV-285 driver education certificate is only for driver education courses completed at a high school or college. This is valid for 2 years from the date issued.
3. Applicants Under 18 Years Old (Class DJ):
- Must wait 6 months from the date their NYS Permit was issued, before you can schedule a road test.
- Must have a parent/guardian complete a form MV-262 (Certification of Supervised Driving) to certify that you completed 50 hours of supervised driving practice. You must present this form to the DMV examiner on the day of your test.
